Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Tattoo Inks

Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Tattoo Inks

18 March 2019

Last August, ECHA published an article highlighting the need of restriction for tattoo inks and permanent make-up containing hazardous substances suspected or known to cause cancer, genetic mutations, toxic effects or allergies. After conducting a thorough investigation, ECHA’s Committee for Socio-economic Analysis concluded that a restriction is the most appropriate measure to mitigate risks and protect people from the potential health impacts of the substances contained in tattoo inks.

The RAC and SEAC opinions will now be forwarded to the European Commission for the drafting of a regulation that could result in the amendment of Annex XVII to REACH.
